Performance Rallying is one of the world’s most challenging and popular motor sports. Unlike any other type of car racing, rally teams must face a “track” which is unknown to them, and which consists of rugged unpaved roads across terrain ranging from deserts to mountains, including sand, gravel, mud, or snow. Maruti Suzuki India Limited normally referred to as Maruti and formerly known as मारुति उद्योग लिमिटेड, is an automobile manufacturer in India. It is a subsidiary of Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki. Maruti is one of the leading automobile brand in India automobile market products. They have design and produced many car in the country. Now Maruti is planning to launch its 13th Edition of Maruti Suzuki Desert storm Rally to the market. Below we show you the features specs and details regarding the Desert storm.
The 13th edition of the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm rally will be flagged off from New Delhi on February 23 2015. The six day event will complete 2,300km, starting from New Delhi, going through Sardarshahar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and will conclude on March 1 in Jaipur. This is also the first time that the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm rally will have a 150km night stage. So far, over 130 teams have registered for the rally.
The Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm rally will be divided into three class – XTreme, NDure XPlore and Moto Quad. The 150km night stage will start at midnight from Sardarshahar and will go up to Bikaner. Divided into five legs the rally will see participants tracing the Thar desert.
At the start of a Performance Rally, the navigator driver is handed route instructions with exact mileages and simple course following directions. For a day and a night, or several days, the team’s task is to drive as fast as possible on every “racing” section with only the “transit” sections in between to repair their vehicles or relax a moment. Racing full speed on unknown dirt roads requires courage, teamwork, an incredibly tough vehicle, and a sideways-through-the-corners driving style that is thrilling to watch.
The Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm will see defending champion and Dakar rally rider, C S Santosh on his Suzuki. This year, about 20 women riders have registered for the rally. Announcing the rally, Mahohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Maruti Suzuki has been at the forefront of extreme motorsports in India. An extreme endurance event of marathon proportions, Desert Storm is one of India’s most horrific rallies. Motorsport rallies bring out the best in man and machine and we are looking forward to exceedingly exciting times ahead.”
