The automotive industry in India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world. It had previously been one of the fastest growing markets globally, but is currently observing flat or negative growth rates. India’s passenger car and commercial vehi cle manufacturing industry is the sixth largest in the world, with an annual production of more than 3.9 million units in 2011. According to recent reports, India overtook Brazil to become the sixth largest passenger vehicle producer in the world (beating such old and new auto makers as Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Spain, France, Brazil). Throughout the course of 2011 and 2012, the industry grew 16-18%, selling around three million units. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, annual vehicle sales are projected to increase to 4 million by 2015, no longer 5 million as previously projected. Now we are going to discuss about the Upcoming Cars in India Between Rs. 5 Lakhs in the India Automobile market:
1. Tata Nano Twist (Rs. 2.5 lakhs)
We always see that Tata brand comes with the new latest update every year with its Nano model, this year they are also updating their Nano with the some modern changes like interior, exterior and its features. Now Tata is about to launch this car with the Automatic gearbox option (AMT). This is going to much similar to the one given in Zest. The other updates include opening tailgate and facelift for interiors. All these are bound to come with increase in price but that is not going to change its stand on the cheapest automatic car. The price is estimated to be around Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The engine would be of 0.6 liter petrol, all this will make it more expensive than the standard car, but it’s still likely to be the most affordable automatic car in the world.
To keep the costs low, the people engaged in scientific or technical research at Tata questioned everything about the way a small car is made. They went the rear-engine rear-wheel drive way instead of the traditional front engine front-wheel drive format, replaced steel with fiber and with most nonessential features to bring to life Ratan Tata’s dream of producing a Rs 1 lakhs car. As expected, the car tasted success, the effect of which was visible on the sales charts, but sadly it hasn’t been successful in maintaining the initial momentum then it hasn’t quit been an entirely smooth journey for the Nano so far.
2. Ford Figo 2015 (Rs. 4.5 Lakhs)
Ford is gearing up to launch the second generation Figo for India. In line with Maruti Swift and Swift Dezire, Ford is coming up with new Ford Figo and Figo+. Figo is going to be similar to Figo+ debt boot space. Figo+ is expected to be launched before the Figo. Ford is going to place this new car sharply against Maruti Swift and Hyundai i10 Grand. The car is going to come with 1.2 liter petrol engine and 1.5 liter diesel engine. The price is estimated to be around Rs. 4.5 to Rs. 6.5 lakh. The current Figo on road is based on hatchback Fiesta that is primarily sold in Europe. The all new version of the car is going to be based on the current Fiesta. This car is already on roads in Brazil but is expected to arrive in India by end of 2015.
Engine options for the new Ford Figo in India is going to include the company’s 1.4 liter, four cylinder, common rail, turbo diesel engine developing 69PS of peak power @ 4,000 rpm and 160Nm of max torque @ 2,000 rpm. Petrol engine options could include the current 1.2 liter petrol four cylinder naturally aspirated engine developing 71PS of max power @ 6,250 rpm and 102Nm of peak torque @ 4,000 rpm. Ford is also going to inject the 1.0 liter direct injection petrol engine to the new Figo, although without a turbo charger unlike in bigger cars. The car has a tall side profile with black window lining, there is a bold shoulder line running from the front wheel vault to the tail lamp while another crease increases front the front wheel vault to the rear door. The alloy wheels will remind us of Ford hot hatches.
3. Maruti Cervo (3.0 lakhs)
Maruti manufacturer is looking at launching more than a dozen models in the Indian market in the next 3-4 years. There is no doubt, most of these will be in the Rs 3 to Rs. 5 lakhs segment and the small hatchback, the Suzuki Cervo will be one of them. Suzuki has already sells the Cervo in the international market and the Indian version will look or less the same though it might carry a different name for India. Another change will be the power plant. We expect Maruti to put the KB10 1.0-liter in this Cervo – the same engine also powers the current Alto K10, A-Star and WagonR. If the Cervo does make it to India, we expect it to carry a ARAI certified fuel economy of over 20.0 km/pl which should interpret into around 15-16 km/pl in real world conditions.
Maruti is about to launch that model at price of 1.0-liter engine base model of the Cervo at around Rs 3 lakhs mark. Maruti is also working to launch this car at CNG capable engines.
4. Tata Nano Diesel (2.5 lakhs)
Tata Nano is one of the most popular small cars in the Indian Automobile market. It has a authentic and fuel efficient engine and is a very easy to drive car. Tata has improved the existing Nano features and made it easier to drive than before model. The exteriors of the new Nano diesel is expected to be somewhat different than what we are used to seeing on the road. It will have a larger air backwater up front with integrated fog lights as well. It almost looks like the Nano Car is smiling at you. Expected price of this diesel model will be around 2.5 lakhs to 2.7 lakhs onwards.
Nano is required to be launched in the diesel engine variant early to the next year. The diesel engine will give it high fuel efficiency and make it the most fuel efficient car in the country. Nano diesel will offer comfortable seating and decent interior features. Interior features will include cup holders, charging point, glove box and power windows.
5. Maruti Celerio Diesel (4 lakhs)
Maruti Celerio with its automatic gearbox (AMT)is a great hit in the Automotive market. Maruti has planning to launch the new diesel variant for the same. This car is going to be fitted with smallest diesel engine and of course its low cost automatic gears. The diesel engine inserted in the car is going to be developed by the company domestic and will not be a Fiat engine as earlier. The engine is not going to be that powerful but with the price they offer we are sure nobody is going to complain. Celerio diesel is going to be fitted with 0.8 liter diesel engine and is expected to cost around Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs. The car is expected to be launched by the end of 2015.
The only rival of this car till now is the diesel version of the Chevrolet Beat and let’s hope new manufacturers have done well with diesel variants to make it out in the entry-level of diesel cars. Booking detail not yet revealed in the market but we will provide you the information as we are going to research.
6. Skoda Citigo (4.4 lakhs)
There is no denying the fact that India is land of small cars and finally the hatchbacks in the mid-size segment are leading the pack in terms of increasing sales numbers per month. Skoda currently has the Fabia in the premium hatchback segment that starts at with Rs 4.4 lakhs. It might not have radical design lines like the Brio but certainly had typical European and teo tonic angles.
The Citigo will be manufactured at Skoda’s facility at Aurangabad and will come with petrol engine to start with. This is a 1.0-litre unit that comes in two different versions of 60HP and 75HP for the abroad market. We feel that to take on cars like the i10 and the Brio, Skoda should bring in the more powerful 75PS segment. This engine, accoding to Skoda’s inner tests, gives over 20km/pl of fuel efficiency. This engine will be fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox. We expect from Skoda to provide a diesel unit later as well which this should easy give the Citigo an increment in the segment.
7. Tata Bolt 2015 (4.5 lakhs)
At this level, there’s obvious that some of you don’t know about the Tata Bolt. Uncovered alongside its compact sedan pattern, the Zest, at the Auto Expo in Feb this year. It shares its chassis, its basic shape and a few other bits with the old car, but like the Zest, it has been re-engineered enough to said and considered to be a new car. Apart from the jazzy new styling, most notice thing is the more conventional tail-lamps that replace Tata’s features ‘Christmas tree’ units, there is also expect a lot more elements in the Bolt in the market, better ride and handling, and also better fit and finish inside the cabin. As for what’s under the hood, the 74 bhp Quadrajet diesel will return, and Tata is likely to use the same 1.2-liter ‘Revotron’ turbo-petrol engine from the Zest in this car as well. The diesel Automatic Transmission (AMT) version, in spite of, is unlikely to make it to the hatchback. This model is going to come with the starting price of 4.5 lakhs in the market.
8. Tata kite 2015 (4.0 lakhs)
The new Tata Kite will be founded on the existing Indica hatchback’s XO platform. The Tata Indica has been around since 1998 and a complete design update is now timeless. The new model is likely to characteristics more bold styling cues to make the car look upto the level and modern. The Tata Indica has always offered an incredible amount of cabin space in its segment. And the fact that the Tata Kite will be based on the existing Indica’s platform means that it should be high on space and if not more than the Indica. We know the Kite can be expected to have more modern interiors than the Indica, along with more equipment. Under the hood, the new Tata Kite will be powered by the company’s new 1.2 liter Revotron turbocharged petrol engine, notwithstanding without the turbocharger in the interest of keeping costs low. This would also mean that the Kite’s petrol engine will develop lesser power than it does in bigger Tata models in which is has a turbo. Resulting in better fuel efficiency. The Tata Kite will get a new 1.05 liter, three cylinder, diesel engine developing maximum power and torque outputs in the range of 64 PS and 142 Nm, respectively. Expect the Tata Kite to be priced in the range of Rs. 4 lakhs to Rs. 5.5 lakhs ex-showroom.
