There is good amount of space for odds and ends and the door pockets are of a decent size. The front seats are very comfortable and Nissan has consciously made the nose of the car visible from the cabin. At the back, headroom and legroom are surprisingly generous. The interior quality isn’t brilliant but pretty good. The cabin remains unchanged except for the addition of a new gear knob and also new silver inserts on the steering wheel.
The Micra has big windows and skinny pillars, so visibility is pretty good all round. Most of the switchgear is easy to use.In terms of equipment you get driver’s side airbag, automatic climate control, stereo as standard on the top-end XV version. There is no ABS on offer even as an option. Overall, the Micra diesel is a cheerful small car that promises low running costs and decent equipment. The Nissan Micra is a contemporary looking hatchback with attractive interiors that caters to the B segment Hatchback market. Nissan has offered automatic climate control and electrically folding mirrors, features that aren’t common among hatchbacks.Inside, the new Micra gets a refreshed center console which has now been finished in a glossy black color and has complementing silver accents. The bulby Nissan interiors are missing. The central AC vents have now been given a rectangular shape and the graphics for the multifunction display have also been changed.
The car looks quite exciting in the flesh, especially from the front side. The two-part grille and arched profile of the cabin carried something over same like earlier Micra. The aesthetic appeal of Maruti Suzuki Swift has been enhanced further by body colored bumper and door handles. The robust body structure is impressive in its own way. The fog lamps have been well supported by chrome inserts which provide a better grip in keeping the fog lamps intact. In the front there are two manually controlled wipers while an automatically controlled wiper which does its job of wiping at regular intervals. The nose has a sporty and nice rounded look on it, with its forward-thrusting grille and setback headlamp pods. On the front Nissan has revised the grille – it now has a honeycomb design and features a Nissan logo surrounded a V-shaped trough. This is similar to the grille and logo found on the Juke crossover.
The bumper has also been revised and now features new fog lamps as well as a redesigned air dam. At the back, the hatchback has refreshed the bumper as well as the tail light cluster which now features LEDs. The Micra also gets a rear spoiler as well as a new design for the alloy-wheels. The new Micra works well as a city car. The more aggressive looks make it more muscular and masculine-looking, the updated interiors look more appealing and Nissan has taken the trouble to really load the car up with a list of desirable features. Comfort levels in the cabin have been improved as well. The Micra has always been a spacious and airy car and now, with the new seats, there’s an improvement in this area too. The new headlamps have also brought in some sheet-metal changes – the front fenders are new as is the bonnet.
You also get new alloy wheels, while the rear gets LED tail-lamps, a new rear bumper and a plastic add-on for the tail gate lip. The facelift is quite substantial too – we think those pulled-back headlamps, the bigger grill with its signature chrome bar and the deeper, more aggressive chin seriously improve the new Micra’s appeal. Though the overall look and feel is the same, there are plenty of silver highlights all over the dashboard and door pads. The feature count has also risen quite a bit. In addition to the keyless entry and go and climate control, the new Micra gets Bluetooth connectivity, USB and Aux-in ports and a reversing camera.
The handling of Nissan Micra is too good not only for cities but also in highway road it gives nice handling experience. People enjoy the ride on it. Straightline stability on the Micra is surprisingly also impressive. Due to the soft suspension, there is some amount of body roll but the baby Nissan is a very neat handler that likes to be chucked around. The steering is very direct, the car goes faithfully in the direction you point it and placing the car accurately, even at speeds, is very easy.
The petrol version of the car has K-series engine with VVT and the diesel version has the DDis technology. The capacities of petrol and diesel versions are 1197 cc and 1248 cc. Number of valves and cylinders in both the version are 4 and 16 respectively. The maximum power generated in petrol version is 84.3 ps @ 6000 rpm and in diesel version it is 75 ps @ 4000 rpm. The maximum torque generated in petrol version is 115 Nm @ 4000 rpm and in diesel version it is 190 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Thumb the start button and the 1.2-litre three cylinder motor settles into a well-damped idle. The motor still pulls well after 3500rpm, and then it does feel a bit quicker. But even then, it is not exciting to drive on an open road. The underpinnings and engine line up remain exactly the same – the Micra still gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing between 56 and 76bhp and 104Nm of torque or the 1.5-litre diesel mill producing 64bhp and 160Nm of torque.
Power is transmitted to the front wheels via five-speed manual gearbox. It’s famous for its innovative and smart engineering solutions to automotive problems. It is powered by an 1198cc three-cylinder motor that makes maximum power of 75bhp. The powerhand feels as refined as a four-unit cylinder unit. It pulls really strongly from 4000rpm and acceleration does not taper off till 6500rpm, giving it a wide power band. Out on the highway, the performance is pretty good and the Micra overtakes without any fuss. The entertainment system is well equipped with LCD screen. Unbelievable but true, the steering wheel can be controlled via Bluetooth in the latest Maruti Suzuki Swift model. There is also availability of sensors at the rear end of the car which will be of great assistance at the time of parking. The wheels are made of steel as well as alloys in LXi and ZXi versions respectively.
Also the Maruti Suzuki Swift is featured with a push start. Although the motor pulls all the way to 6800rpm, it’s no match to the top end of the Maruti’s four-cylinder K-series engine. And after 6500rpm it does get a bit harsh too. What is not impressive, however, is the weak bottom end of the motor which forces you to execute a downshift. But though responses at low speed are not strong, they are linear and get progressively stronger. The suspension and tyres have plenty of compliance in them and rough sections and bad roads are all sponged up effortlessly. There’s very little bobbing, the suspension works silently and this allows you to drive over rough patches without a care.The new automatic gearbox, 76bhp engine and light controls work well in the city as well. It may not be as fun to drive as the new Polo, and may not be nearly as nice at higher speeds, but if you are looking at it purely as a city car, there’s a lot to like here. The diesel trims are powered by a 1.5-litre engine that can displace 1461cc. It has the capacity of generating 63.1bhp along with 160Nm of torque.
It is skilfully coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box. The braking and suspension mechanism of this hatchback are quite proficient. Its front and rear wheels are further fitted with ventilated disc and drum brakes respectively. Meanwhile, the front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, while rear has torsion beam type of mechanism. The braking mechanism of XL Option, XV and XV Premium variants are augmented by ABS along with EBD and brake assist function. It also has an engine immobilizer that safeguards it from theft and unauthorized entry.
Efficiency & Mileage Review
According to ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India), the Nissan Micra Diesel mileage is 23 kmpl. However, as per the claims by Nissan, the car sports a fuel economy of 19.34 kmpl. It give good mileage on highway and also in cities. By running the car on a smooth highway at a speed of 80-100 kmph without the air conditioner, Nissan Micra Diesel highway mileage is nice. Post this test, we drove the car into city conditions of New Delhi and switched-on the air conditioner. While performing this test, the Nissan Micra Diesel city mileage came out awesome.
