The Bajaj Avenger is a cruiser type bike designed and developed by Bajaj Auto in India. It shows the styling and other design cues from the Bajaj Eliminator which had an air-cooled, single-cylinder Kawasaki engine and was sold at a premium. It was launched with a 180 cc engine, which has subsequently been increased to 200 cc and then 220 cc. In July 2010, Bajaj launched a 220 cc version of Bajaj Avenger, with slight changes in its dial in tank showing indicators, fuel level, status and head light. It comes with variant colors and with Oil cooled radiator for its engine. Avenger 220 is a very successful cruiser in India when compared with others with reliability, price tag, performance, maintenance cost, power and glamor in the bike segment. Now there is a new model of Bajaj Avenger launching soon in 2015.
Bajaj Auto updated the avenger last time was back in 2010, when they updated 220 cc engine from the bajaj Pulsar 220F was proposed on the cruiser. From that time, the company has been selling the exactly same model with no changes and it still has been doing properly well for the company, selling around 3,000 units every month, with almost invisible marketing and promotional efforts. The Bajaj Avenger 220 is, as we discussed earlier, is a improved version of the old Avenger 180. The new bike features an elegant design, longer handlebars and a large windshield. You also get a pretty big tank which features an ergonomic design and delivers a pretty generous range.Another interesting feature is the third generation throttle ignition control system. This system allows you to control the ignition by operating the throttle. It also helps in achieving a good balance between driver’s ability and optimum ignition spark advance, resulting in an almost perfect ignition spark advance for every throttle opening and engine rpm.
The never-changing formula for success is assumed to get an update before the end of June, as Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, told CNBC-TV18 that the company has six launches planned for the first half of the year include a new Avenger, alongside the new Pulsars. While Bajaj never speak about their motorcycle in depth, the updated version could have Elegant upgrades as well as engine upgrades.
While the Avenger may seems to be decreased in it’s engine capacity from the 220 cc single-cylinder, to the Pulsar 200 NS 200 cc engine. There would actually be a significant upgrade in to power output of the cruiser, since the 220 cc engine produces a mere 18.7 bhp of power versus the 23.5 bhp of the Pulsar 200 NS. The company would of course have to change the state of tune of the engine in accordance to a cruiser’s character.
