Mercedes had already shown the petrol version of the CClass back in November 2014, which is imported as a CBU model. Similarly, the newly launched diesel version will follow the CBU route for a few months before it is assembled.

The car is powered by the familiar 2.2-liter 4 cylinder diesel motor producing 167.6 bhp between 3,000-4,200 rpm and 400 Nm between 1,400-2,800 rpm. The power is transmitted to rear wheels via a 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission to the rear wheels, enabling it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 233 km/h.The German car manufacturer claims an ARAI rated efficiency of 19.27 km/l for the diesel powered CClass. Unlike old Mercs, new models like the CClass come with five Agility settings – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. These switch the engine, AC and steering of the vehicle in the CClass. In Eco, the motor takes it easy and the gearbox shifts with utter secrecy but the punch is missing. Things get better (from the performance perspective) with each mode, S+ being the most intense of them all where power is quite spiky, making it best for use on the open road.
