Maruti Alto 800

Maruti Alto 800

Maruti Alto 800

The Maruti Alto 800 has already been pronounced the “People’s Car of India” within 2 months of its release. Maruti has certainly won the hearts of a majority of the country. Maruti Alto 800 entirely developed in India, with an investment of Rs 470crore by Maruti Suzuki and its vendors, over 200 Maruti Suzuki engineers worked on the Alto 800 over the last four years. The new Alto 800 sports a fresh look, is more spacious and delivers 15% better efficiency than its predecessor, claims Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti had launched its much awaited Alto 800 at Rs 2.44lakh to 3.56lakh ex showroom New Delhi for petrol and C.N.G variant. The introduction of the CNG models has really provided the car range with a wide variety of versatility. The only drawback of the CNG models is the fact that there is no airbag model in the three variants.

In the first week after the launch of the car, Maruti Suzuki received a record breaking 21,000 figure booking for the car. The Alto seems to enjoy the same kind of popularity that the Maruti 800 enjoyed before it. The all new Alto 800 is an expression of our gratitude to all those customers who posed deep confidence into this model. Known for the defining values in the entry segment in India, customer’s love for Alto has made it India’s top selling car for eight years. The new Alto 800 promises to be even more valuable with its stunning new looks.

Interior

Maruti Alto 800 Interior

One of the biggest feature of the car is the fact that the interior spaces have been widely increased. The seating has become really comfortable and the car is now big enough to Seat around five people. There are convenient seats along with a lot of leg room and there is sufficient space for luggage as well. The new dashboard looking very modern and  it now has a V shaped panel in the center as well. The music system and the AC vents are also available in the dashboard.

You sit pretty low in the Alto and due to the low  cachet of the car, getting in and out is a bit of a chars. The front seat itself is comfortable but lacks enough under-thigh support. Seat bolstering is also not the best and you tend to get thrown around on enthusiastic drives.

There are power windows in the car, storage space for the driver side, and a digital clock. There is also an efficient air conditioning, bottle holders, etc. The air conditioning also provides one with a climate control system for the car and Maruti has not forgotten anything about the safety features of the car. One has a lot of safety features inbuilt in the car, such as Driver airbag (only in the petrol high- end version, though), Collapsible steering etc.

Exterior

The Maruti Alto categorically looks sportier than all its  Previous versions. The front has received a huge rejuvenate. It has a newly styled two part radiator front grille. There is an Maruti Suzuki India badge in the middle of the grille as well.

The split grille is mounted on a bumper, which is body colored. The grille is surrounded by the fenders which are quite prominent. This makes them really efficient and strong enough to handle the frame of the car as well. The car also comes with door handles that are body colored, deep lines that run along the body of the car and really smart and powerful looking wheels. The windscreen space is also quite large. The tail lamp that comes with the car is smarter looking than the previous ones. Maruti Alto 800 comes with 6 color options- Silky Silver, Frost Blue, Torque Blue, Blazing Red, Granite Grey, Superior White.

Maruti Alto 800 have similar floorpan, the wheelbase is the same and the suspension and brakes are near identical. Also similar are the load points on the chassis  and the engine lagoon is now more compact, and the firewall and dash have been optimized to make the cabin more space efficient. The roof is now 15 percent higher for improved headroom. The body structure has been modified to make it stiffer, both in the interest of improved ride and handling, and to qualify it for impending crash test norms. But this hasn’t added too much to the weight. The roof, for example, is made of skinny steel and has corrugations for added rigidity and the top-end airbag-equipped version tips the scales at just 725kg.

Handling

Maruti Alto 800 Steering Wheel

Maruti Alto 800 has been equip with the Power steering wheel and the ride and handling of Maruti have also gone a step ahead in the right direction. Low-speed ride quality is another area where this Maruti showed a plushness you wouldn’t really associate with a budget city car. The Suspension on the car is certainly good enough to handle Indian roads as well and it does a good job of degradation the flick. Over bad roads, the Alto feels out of its comfort zone and the ride isn’t as flat as we would like. There’s a fair amount of vertical movement owing to its softly tipsy setup. Suspension noise is also pretty well-contained, though road noise gets inside as you go faster.

Where the Alto shines the most is in city limits. The car’s compact dimensions,  joined with the light steering, are dire for parking in tight spots. There is a fair bit of body roll when you go fast around making cuts on a corners, but the car feels safe and in control. However, the light steering doesn’t quite weight up at higher speeds and there’s lots of lingering around the straight ahead position.

Performance

The car comes with a 3- cylinder, 796 cc, 12 valve engine. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox as well. There is a 32 bit microprocessor combined with the power- mill which produces a lot of torque output for the car.

The first thing you see when you set off in traffic is that this motor is much more free than the older one. It makes the Alto feel light and perky to drive. The car’s throttle responses have improved very much and it pulls well from most engine speeds. The engine is much more flexible and the Alto now feels at home on the highway also. Overtaking is much easier and it needs only a shift or two to accelerate with contentment.

The Maruti Alto 800 come with Four different Variants of petrol engine in the market. These variants are as followings:

Maruti Alto 800 LX
